Chapter Philanthropy and Service
Zeta Tau Alpha's philanthropy is Breast Cancer Education and Awareness, a cause that is near and dear to so many of our sisters. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Our philanthropic goal is to help to raise money and awareness to help in the fight against this statistic.
Theta Sigma chapter actively supports our national philanthropy. You can find us passing out pink ribbons (a collector's item for every ZTA), selling pink lemonade, and pie-ing sisters for our cause during the common time. We also hold larger events each semester to gather the Winthrop community for support in the fight against breast cancer.
Our biggest philanthropy event to date was our spring Crown 5K. Sisters arrived early the morning of the race to help set up and adorn the entrance of the athletic complex with pink balloons. Sporting their new ZTA t-shirts, runners and walkers made their way around the Winthrop Golf Course. The race was timed, and winners of every age group received small goodie baskets. With almost 200 runner signups, the Crown 5K was one of our most successful philanthropy events.
In the spring Zeta Tau Alpha hosts its annual Lip Sync battle event. Various organizations on campus form teams from fraternities, sororities, residence hall floors, and even the collegiate sports teams. Sisters help tear tickets for observers to watch as teams perform their favorite lip-sync rendition on the Tillman Auditorium stage.
Big events help to raise money, but our most important goal is to spread the word about Breast Cancer risks, statistics, and preventative care. Philanthropy is about bonding over a common cause and as Zeta Tau Alpha's we are bound together by sisterhood and our passionate fight against breast cancer.
